In early July, a group of Omani divers, along with support from the Ministry of Environment and Climate Affairs (MOECA), conducted a reef cleaning campaign at Demaniate Island in the Sultanate of Oman.
The core mission of the MOECA is the policy development and preparation of plans and programs necessary for the protection of the environment, pollution control, nature conservation and management of climatic affairs.
Well done divers of NAUI Service Center Middle East!
The Gulf beach under the Venice Fishing Pier is cleaner thanks to the work of the Suncoast Reef Rovers of Venice and their many friends, including Florida Underwater Sports, Sarasota Bay Watch, Venice Police, Venice Police Citizen Volunteers, Sharky’s Restaurant, Reelcycle, the City of Venice and the Green Diver Initiative.
A team of 24 “topsiders” on land, 4 student volunteers, and three boats, assisted 27 divers as they descended on Brohard Beach on Saturday, July 15, 2017, to remove underwater debris from a spot that is very popular with families, fishers, and beach lovers.
Among the debris were sunglasses, a guitar pick, $20, a man’s ring, and a cell phone along with common items such as - anchors, traps, rope, knives, lures, line, and rods & reels that altogether added up to 141 pounds of waste.
Well done on a successful event! To get involved in future initiatives, contact Ken Lackmann, of Suncoast Reef Rovers.
