JANUARY PARTNER SPOTLIGHT:
INLAND WATER DIVERS, GOODYEAR, AZ

Captain Pete at Inland Water Divers supports the Green Diver Initiative in different ways.  He takes up a collection and at the end of the year, sends a check to Green Diver.  He also promotes cleaning up the waters on each of his dives.  Weather he is diving for fun or when he is out training, you will always see him come back to the dock with debris that he has recovered from the lake.
Hats off to Captain Pete and Inland Water Divers!!

NAUI’s global reputation for the best in training and educational products reflects our core values of quality dive training through education. Many organizations specifically choose NAUI for their diver education programs including Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, Florida, United States Navy SEAL Teams and NASA’s Neutral Buoyancy Laboratory in Houston, Texas (USA) where astronauts train for their space walks.

While NAUI has long been respected for having the highest training standards in the recreational diving industry, we are also highly regarded for our Technical Diver Training. Many of our technical developments have been adopted by other agencies; our Technical Diving Division leads in the development of new theories and research that keeps NAUI on the cutting edge of technical diving.

For further information on affiliated stores, diver training, educational products and programs, contact NAUI at (001) 813-628-6284 or nauihq@naui.org. For specific media inquiries, contact marketing@naui.org.

Scuba Soaps was launched in 2015, but our parent company, Regal Rabbit, was founded in 2003. Since it began, Regal Rabbit has donated 100% of profits to charity, mainly focusing on animal rescue causes. Scuba Soaps continues to donate their profits to animals, but we're also allocating a portion to our friends in the sea, such as sharks and corals.  We use vegan, cruelty-free, natural ingredients in all of our recipes.  We don't put harsh detergents or chemicals in our bars - just rich moisturizing oils, nourishing glycerin, and other skin-soothing ingredients.

They have a variety of soaps and soap dishes - my favorites art the Shark Tornado, Turtle Journey, JAWS bar, Shell Beach and Stingray on the Bay!!

Click here to order your Scuba Soaps today and enter "Green Diver" in the referral code in the bottom box and Green Diver will receive 100% of the proceeds!!

Earlier this week, FORCE BLUE announced plans to begin partnering with the NAUI Green Diver Initiative in its quest to promote conservation through education, partnerships and activities focused on environmental stewardship.

“We couldn’t be more excited” said FORCE BLUE Executive Director Jim Ritterhoff. “The NAUI Green Diver Initiative, with its vision to create a world filled with clean, healthy and sustainable aquatic environments aligns perfectly with FORCE BLUE and our mission to protect, preserve and restore the planet’s marine resources.”

The partnership will begin this June 2019, during FORCE BLUE’s upcoming mission to study Green Sea Turtle behavior in the Florida Keys alongside marine scientists and veterinarians from the Turtle Hospital in Marathon.  To see the short documentary click here.

“The NAUI Green Diver Initiative is proud to partner with FORCE BLUE and honored to be a part of their Green Sea Turtle Mission” said Maria Lewis, Executive Director of NAUI Green Diver Initiative. “The NAUI Green Diver Initiative has just been through a strategic planning process and has adopted the goals of education, awareness and affecting environmental change. With that in mind, it makes perfect sense for this to be our first partnership under our new plan.”

“As someone who was worked closely both for and with NAUI in the past, I am thrilled that FORCE BLUE and the NAUI Green Diver Initiative are teaming up.” said Angelo Fiore, FORCE BLUE’s Director of Diving Operations. “Bringing the military diving community that FORCE BLUE represents together with a recreational diving powerhouse like NAUI makes for a dynamic collaboration.”
“FORCE BLUE is all about bridging gaps.” said Ritterhoff. “This partnership is just one more example.”

Green Diver Initiative is partnering with the Sea Turtle Conservancy to reduce plastic waste from restaurants.  Green Diver Initiative and Sea Turtle Conservancy is working with coastal restaurant owners to change the way they distribute straws, by offering a straw-on-demand policy. This change is free for a restaurant owner to implement – the only effort needed from the owner is to educate the servers and patrons about the purpose of the policy. It works like this: Instead of automatically providing a straw with each drink at a table, a server will only provide one if a guest asks for one. The best option is to eliminate plastic straws entirely by offering paper straws instead. Aardvark Straws, for example, are a durable paper option that can be customized with a restaurant’s logo.

STC is targeting restaurants because restaurants are often the source of the problem. We have received feedback that customers try to tell the server they do not want a straw, but they still end up on the table and are eventually thrown out. Instead of leaving it up to the customer to remember ask for no straw, STC is tackling the source of straw distribution – restaurants.  For more information visit Sea Turtle Conservancy.

At Mokarran, we are concerned about our impact on the environment. As you may have guessed, we do not manufacture ourselves our T-shirts. For this purpose, we work with various manufacturing companies that we chose very carefully not only based on quality but on their environmental impact. People often refer to organic cotton and our T-shirts use such cotton. However, this is not the only issue one has to be particularly careful about. Fabric dyeing can be a very polluting activity with significant environmental and health impacts. We selected partners that are using ecofriendly practices in all aspects of the manufacturing process. Of course, the human factor cannot be overlooked either. We selected our partners based on how well they treat their workforce. We wanted our partners to be transparent on all these points, so that they could tell us where, how and by whom the fabric they use was produced, woven, dyed, cut and sewn. Two companies met our requirements and are now our partners: Bella + Canvas, located in California and Stanley Stella, based in Belgium. All the T-shirts you will find on our online stores are produced by Bella + Canvas.

Morkarran will donate 1€ per t-shirt sold which is equal to about $1.20 and they will donate 10% of any Green Diver logo shirts.  Please visit their site by clicking here.  Then when ordering, click on the cart and put "Green Diver" in the box where it says Special instructions for seller.

Miami Reef Initiative Corp. is a 501(c)3 charitable organization. We formed this initiative with purpose of restoring the reefs in Miami-Dade County with a specific focus on the area from the southern point of South Beach north to the Miami-Dade County line. The area is in need of more attention.

Our goal is to restore this part of the reef as well as conserve what is currently there while educating people on the existence of the reef (many people do not know a reef exists in this area) and how their actions impact the reef.

In order to do all of this effectively, we would want to be able to conduct studies, hopefully create nurseries, outplant, conduct research to develop disease resistance coral to the current stony coral tissue loss disease and eventually take volunteers and individuals to the site to show them what is close to their shore along with conducting community events to help spread the word of our efforts.

RRReefs was founded in 2020 by the interdisciplinary art-science duo Marie Griesmar and Dr. Ulrike Pfreundt.

We rebuild coral reefs. Sustainably. Scientifically. With artistic vision.
We develop self-sustaining artificial coral reefs designed with dual purpose - to serve as coastal protection barriers while initiating the growth of a healthy reef ecosystem.  Our RRReef brick system recreates the lost 3D-framework of a damaged
reef, restoring reef ecosystem services such as fish stocks, tourism, biodiversity, and coastal protection. We achieve this goal by combining artistic vision with scientific rigor, and the newest 3D printing technologies.
Our rrreef bricks cater to the need of reef ecology, aesthetics, and scalability. They are easy-to-handle, stackable like legos, 3D-printed from clay, and can be assembled in an infinite number of compositions, creating large reefs with customizable shapes.
